Guess where I am?
I am the clown, the fool

An important purpose to write a course reflective essay is to list down what I have learned by doing this course. This is the ability to “step back” and understand my own actions and thought processes. There was a lot of knowledge, skills and moral values that I learnt by doing this project. Besides, I have learned to demonstrate what I have learned in this coursework. I also appreciated my friends that help me a lot.

Our class had the drama on 7 May 2013. We introduced to this coursework since we were in semester 1. I am glad that we chose the right person in the committee because everybody had different forte in different aspect. For me, I am forte in makeup and costume accessories making.

The knowledge that I have gained from doing this course is I learnt acting, staging and adapting the drama, King Lear by William Shakespeare. Actually I had acting experience since kindergarten but I had no idea how to bring up an attractive acting. This time, I had the chance to act as a fool in the tragedy of King Lear. The fool was a naughty person but he was the one with a lot of knowledge. Maybe the fool was a imagery person of King Lear because the king doesn’t believe the people that betrayed him. So, he created an imagery person to put his trust. The fool was hard to act especially in Act 3 because the fool started to sympathize the king and the naughty character was gone. About the staging, I had learnt to apply makeup to the characters. This was the first time I applied makeup to someone else. For me, this was the challenging part of staging because a makeup brings up the character to the audience. So that, the audience had the idea to determine the character whether was a protagonist or antagonist. Talk about the adapting of the drama, we changed the whole drama into Chinese setting. We translated the name of the characters and we even put Chinese idioms into the script.

The knowledge I gained was meaningful to me because I needed to have the basic on how to do bring up a staging so that I can prepare for the next semester drama, A Midsummer Night. The knowledge of how to staging, acting and adapting the drama and is meaningful to me because maybe one day I can be the director directing some of the plays. Maybe one day I will direct my students to put up a play and give them some acting workshops. I also can teach them how to adapt a drama or a play. So, I need the basic skills of staging, acting and adapting skills.

The action or decision I made was I decided to put my creativity and passionate to this drama. I had suggested some scene of the play. For example, I give some opinion on Goneril opened her eyes when she is dead. Besides, I also suggested some soundtrack to the Technitions. Since I am in costume committee, I helped my leader and members to make some costume accessories. Why I put my action and decision because I think without the tolerant between the committee members, this project will not be success.

Through this coursework, I can develop into a person that full of ideas, independent and punctual. I can develop into a person that have full of ideas by thinking creatively by doing this project. I will develop into a punctual person by attending the rehearsals.

Overall, I would like to thank Ms. Shuba to give me the opportunity to learn something new, creative and outside the text book.

The drama was successful. Our lecturer was proud of us. The most important thing was we did better than seniors. We even invited teacher trainees from Gaya Teacher Training Institute. We mingled with them and they praised our drama very well. I met my friend, he is from Gaya Teacher Training Institute. He praised our drama very much and we had a conversation with the teacher trainees from Gaya Teacher Training Institute.

I felt very happy , really...
